Kindergarten

Welcome to kindergarten at Saint Apollinaris School. I am looking forward to working with you and your child during this very important school year. Our communication as partners in your child’s education is vital to the growth and progress of your student.

Please be sure to look for the kindergarten Homework/Newsletter in your child’s homework folder the first day of each school week. This information is extremely important as it informs you of everything that is happening in kindergarten. Also, look for our school newsletter, The Shamrocket online every Thursday at www.stapollinaris.com. It contains very important school news, announcements, the monthly calendar and hot lunch schedule.

Birthdays

We want to make every child’s birthday special and meaningful in our classroom. Your child will be featured and celebrated in many ways in the classroom on his/her birthday. If you would like to bring treats for all of the kids please bring them in the morning before school. We encourage “healthy” alternatives to typical birthday treats. Some examples might be: fruit, pretzels, cheese sticks, water bottles, or even a non food item such as bubbles! Summer birthdays will be celebrated during the last week of school.

Field Trips

We usually have 2 field trips during our kindergarten year.  We are eager to strengthen the home/school connection and will be asking for parent chaperones to assist on these trips.  It is our policy that you do not bring younger siblings when you volunteer for field trips and special activities.  The field trips and special activities are designed specifically for kindergarten children.  This is a very special time for just you and your kindergarten child.  It is important for your child to have your full attention and share their kindergarten experiences with you.  We will try to inform you of field trips and special activities far enough in advance so that you can make child care arrangements for your younger children.

It is MOST IMPORTANT that your child eat a nutritious breakfast before coming to kindergarten.  Your child’s energy and performance levels are directly related to the food that he/she has eaten.

Please send your child with a nutritious snack every day for 10:00 and 2:00 recess.  To avoid confusion it is a good idea to have your child’s snacks for recess in a separate bag from their lunch. Our school offers hot lunch on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Hot lunch tickets are available for purchase in the school office.  Please be sure to put your child’s name on their ticket.
