Spelling Bee 2007

And the winning word was…..
Congratulations to all 20 St. A’s spellers in our 11th Annual Spelling Bee last Thursday. It was an exciting Bee with many challenging words and successful spellings. After 6 opening rounds featuring words such as: relevant, curriculum, and access, the following 11 spellers advanced to the final rounds: Holly M.(8), Mary C. (8), Rachel G. (7), Samantha G.(7), Garrett H. (6), Eddie R. (6), Caitlin D. (8), Isabella B. (5), Gabriel P. (5), Alice H. (7) and Preet J. (8). It took 5 intense rounds of single elimination to arrive at the final two spellers. Words in those “spell-off” rounds included: indigenous, belligerent and epiphany. To achieve their finalist seats, Eddie spelled ubiquitous and Alice caboose. Alice successfully spelled recalcitrant and vernacular to win this year’s Spelling Bee.
Please wish Alice good luck as she advances to the next level and prepares for the San Francisco Chronicle Written Spelling Bee on February 24th at UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science. Go get ‘em, Alice! |
